Sen. Kamala Harris campaigns in Raleigh ahead of 2020 election

Sen. Kamala Harris’ visit came as Joe Biden campaigned in Charlotte last Wednesday. Harris gave remarks on the Supreme Court and what’s at stake in the election.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Senator Kamala Harris campaigned in Raleigh Monday ahead of the presidential election.

Harris gave remarks on the Supreme Court and what's at stake in this election for the American people, from the Affordable Care Act to other issues affecting their everyday lives.

Her visit came as Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden campaigned in Charlotte last Wednesday, and President Donald Trump’s visit to the Queen City last Thursday.

Harris gave honor to the late supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in her speech Monday.

“When justice Ginsburg passed away, not only did we lose a giant from the court, but from American life. Few people in our history have done more to change more lives than she did as a lawyer, an advocate, and a supreme court justice,” Harris said.

Harris said Ginsburg was “an inspiration for each of us.”

She highlighted the Affordable Care Act and the effects of the coronavirus pandemic in her campaign rally.

“Trump and Republicans’ relentless obsession with overturning the Affordable Care Act – driven entirely by a blind rage toward President Obama – is especially damaging at a moment when the country is suffering through a pandemic that has claimed more than 200,000 lives,” Harris said. “American people have the power – at the ballot box. This election is about more than the presidency or the senate: it’s about our democracy.”
