Not everyone plans ahead when it comes to picking up Christmas gifts for family and friends. On Christmas Eve, last minute shoppers packed the parking lots at the Friendly Center to stop by big box stores and small boutiques before the end of the day.

Most retailers closed around 6 p.m., and will be closed on Christmas Day as well. However, a few spots around the Triad will still be open for super last-minute purchases. Target and the Family Dollar will stay open until 10 p.m., while certain CVS and Walgreen's Pharmacies will remain open into Christmas Day.

Some people opted to stay away from busy spots - instead, going to Scuppernong Books in downtown Greensboro. There, they can get personal recommendations from Steve Mitchell.

"There's always some desperation in the last couple of days, that's what gift certificates are for!," he joked, "The other cool thing about being at the last minute is that you probably end up finding things you wouldn't find otherwise."
