Some Greensboro Neighborhoods Still Not Getting Regular Mail After Snow Storm

Folks are ordering holiday gifts for loved ones and expecting their own gifts in return. But not getting mail for days is worrying for some of them.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The snow has melted away and life has gotten back to normal for many Triad residents. But some people still have not begun receiving their mail. A number of people wrote into WFMY saying their mailboxes were empty all week.

The December 9 snowstorm which brought the Piedmont Triad to a standstill couldn't have come at a worse time. Folks are ordering holiday gifts for loved ones and expecting their own gifts in return. But not getting mail for days is worrying for some of them.

"I was really concerned about my mail because I was expecting some medications," said Joe Gangloff of Greensboro. Gangloff said the medication is really vital for him as well as some legal documents which were supposed to have been delivered at the beginning of the week.

But days after snow from Sunday's storm has been plowed off Greensboro's roadway, Gangloff says his mailbox stayed mostly empty

"We went from that day all the way till today without any mail delivery whatsoever," added Gangloff.

Across town, some neighbors say they too had not received mail all week

"It's been seven days and Tuesday the street was cleared that's plenty of time to have caught up," said Brenda Hillebrand. It's not just Hillebrand's mail that's not coming in.

"My Christmas cards have not gone out yet because I'm waiting for them to come and I could've gone to the post office but I usually just put them in the mailbox who knew they were not going to come back," added Hillebrand.

After a few calls and an email to the Postal Service -- Joe eventually got some mail today.

"I have received three mail deliveries today what's going to happen next week I have no idea but I'm still missing some documents that I am expecting," said Gangloff.

U.S Postal Service representatives were unavailable to comment on a weekend, but Greensboro's Postmaster General said in an earlier interview that December is their busiest season.

"Our people are already working long hours. In fact, before the storm, we're bringing our carriers as early as 5:30 or 6 O'clock," said Ronnie White, Post Master General, Greensboro.
