Two Winston-Salem Taxi Drivers Killed in Past Three Months

A 48-year-old taxi driver was found dead Monday night in Winston-Salem.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WFMY) - For the second time in three months, Winston-Salem Police are investigating the murder of a taxi driver.

Police say they found Curtis Lee McCollum lying in the road outside his Classic Cab taxi in the 700 block of Barbara Jane Ave. Monday night.

McCollum, 48, appeared to have several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Emergency personnel.

Classic Cab Owner Barry Abdul says one of his other drivers, Richard Webb, was shot and killed in the back by his passenger in March.

Abdul says they're devastated by the losses. "The morale is very, very low. It's been terrible. Now every time my drivers are out on the road I can't rest until I make sure they are back home safe," says Abdul.

Police are in the early stages of this investigation. McCollum's death is Winston-Salem's 11th homicide of 2018.

The Winston-Salem Police Department is asking anyone with information to call (336) 773-7700 or Crime Stoppers at (336) 727-2800, En Español (336) 728-3904.
