Triad's First Indoor Dog Park and Pub Set To Open In January

The Barking Deck hopes to be a regular part of you and your pup's lives.

Looking for a place to take your dog and hang out with humans who share your love for pooches? Look no further.

The Barking Deck is opening on S. Walnut Circle on January 19th, 2019.

It's an indoor dog park where dogs will be able to roam freely, while their owners can grab a beer and catch up with friends.

"We want to make a place where it's easy to make friends. And that's canine friends and human friends. I think dogs make people better humans. They make us feel good. They do so much for us. This place will be a place where people can have fun and connect," business owner Paula Dozier said.

Dozier came up with the idea for the business after her dog Spartacus passed away. Spartacus was a rescue dog that needed a lot of extra attention.

"He had some severe separation anxiety. It was kind of difficult to go anywhere without him. I had to change my routine to make him a part of my every day life," Dozier said.

What makes this business different that a bar that allows dogs is that your dog will not have to be on a leash.

"Not every dog is great on a leash. Some dogs will pull or some make it difficult for you to sit there and enjoy your beer."

Dogs must be fixed, friendly, and vaccinated. You must also have a membership or pass for your dog.

So far, around 220 people have already signed up for memberships.

You can find more information about that here.

The Barking Deck is for adults 21 and older unless otherwise specified for a special event.

Dozier said feedback from the community has been positive.

"Pretty much as soon as we tell people what we are doing. They are like, ' That sounds amazing. How do I get there? Can I come now?'" Dozier said.
