How does a $5 movie sound? Pretty good, considering tickets and popcorn have gotten so expensive, it's nearly unaffordable for most families to go to the movies these days.
So when News 2 viewer Mary Elizabeth saw an article about $5 AMC movies on Tuesdays, she asked us to VERIFY:
"Hi, Meghann! Can you help me verify a story I heard about $5 movie tickets with AMC? According to the article, during the month of October, each Tuesday you can go to a movie for only $5! That might make a lot of folks happy if it's true. Thanks so much!"
To VERIFY, we talked to the AMC corporate communications director Ryan Noonan.
Noonan said the $5 Tuesday ticket deal is true. AMC is offering $5 movies and $5 popcorn-drink combinations every Tuesday through October at all AMC-branded locations.
But, to get the promotion, you need an AMC membership. You can sign up on the AMC website, and the basic membership tier -- the AMC Stubs Insider -- is free.
Once you get the membership, you must purchase your $5 ticket at the box office, where the employee can look up your membership on your AMC app or by phone number or e-mail.
If you want to use the $5 popcorn-drink combination, you must show the coupon at the concession stand.
We verified the $5 AMC ticket Tuesday deal is legitimate through Oct. 31, but you need to sign up for an AMC membership and can do so for free.
The $5 tickets cannot be combined with other ticket discounts, and there are still upcharges on premium formats (3-D).
