Winn-Dixie Closing All NC Stores, 16 In Piedmont

That includes, three in Greensboro and two each in High Point and Eden.

Jacksonville, FL -- The Winn-Dixie grocery chain is closing all its stores in North Carolina and three other states and cutting back operations in four others. The move is part of the company's Chapter Eleven bankruptcy reorganization plan. Winn-Dixie has 80 stores in the western and central parts of North Carolina. That includes, three in Greensboro, two each in High Point and Eden and one each in Madison, North Wilkesboro, Walkertown, Lexington, Thomasville, Haw River, Burlington and Mebane. The Florida-based supermarket chain also says it will close three of its ten distribution centers, including one in Charlotte. A spokesman says Winn-Dixie will close a total of 326 of its 913 stores in nine Southeastern states and the Bahamas. That's 35% of its stores, which will force it to reduce its workforce by 28%.
