WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem church day care where six children escaped and wandered onto a busy highway back in December is set to close next month.

Good Samaritans rescued the children, all around the age of 3, at the intersection of Stafford Village Blvd and Peters Creek Parkway.

Pinedale Christian Church Pastor Matthew Sink says the day care facility will close at the end of the business day on June 11.

Sink said after the incident in December, church officials worked to scrutinize their security measures for the day care. He says because the day care is attached to the church, and the church is always busy with events, they would not be able to meet the standards of security needed for the day care.

Sink says church officials are working with the day care employees on finding new employment. They're also working with parents on finding other day cares for their children.
