Man And Child Die After Being Caught In Rip Current At Atlantic Beach

The Atlantic Beach Fire Department said they were swimming in a red flag zone when they were pulled out by the rip current.

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. — A man and boy died after they were pulled from the waters of Atlantic Beach on Tuesday, according to police.

The two became caught in a rip current around 2 p.m.

The Atlantic Beach Fire Department said they were swimming in a red flag zone when they were pulled out by the rip current.

They were pulled from the water west of Oceania Pier.

The identities of the man and child were not immediately available.

Atlantic Beach officials place red flags on the strand when there is a continued high risk of rip currents.

The public is asked to stay out of the water when red flags are flying.
