Up-and-coming country music singer Justin Carter was killed in an accidental shooting in Houston Saturday, according to multiple reports. The gun was reportedly going to be used as a prop in a music video.

Fox News reports, according to Carter's mother, the gun was in Carter's pocket when it went off.

"He was a wonderful artist," his mother Cindy McClellan said. "He was the voice, he was the total package and we're trying to keep his legend [alive]."

Carter, 35, reportedly had just signed a record contract with Triple Threat Management.

The death was indicated on a Facebook page and an Instagram account for Carter.

Carter is survived by two daughters, Fox reported. His mother said Carter was in the U.S. Army, but she was not sure if he qualified for a military burial. The family is working to return his body to San Antonio.
