Navy identifies sailor assigned to JEB Little Creek who died from COVID-19 complications

Chief Hull Technician Justin Huf died two days after he was admitted to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk.

NORFOLK, Va. — For the second time in less than a month, a local active-duty sailor has died from COVID-19 complications.

Chief Hull Technician Justin Huf, 39, was assigned to Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 4, based at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek. Navy officials reported that Huf came down with virus symptoms on February 16 and tested positive for COVID-19 on Feb. 19.

He was admitted to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk the following day, then passed away just two days later on Monday. Huf was in the ICU at the time of his death.

"We mourn the loss of our shipmate; our thoughts and prayers are with the Sailor’s family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time," the Navy said in a news release.

Sailors who had been in contact with the individual have been notified and are taking the appropriate precautions.

Earlier this month, 42-year-old Aviation Support Equipment Technician 1st Class Marcglenn L. Orcullo also died from complications to COVID-19. He was assigned to the USS Wasp.
