Neighbors Fed Up With Irregular Recycle Pick-Ups in Jamestown Neighborhood

Several neighbors expressed their frustration with Republic Waste services on the Nextdoor app.

JAMESTOWN, N.C. — Neighbors in one Jamestown neighborhood say they are fed up with their recycling pick-up service.

Several neighbors who live in the Cedarwood subdivision expressed their frustration with Republic Waste services on the Nextdoor app and several text messages.

They complained about things like missed pick-ups for both recyclable waste and some trash pick-up service as well and poor response to customer complaints.

"I thought it was because maybe we were the only two houses and they forgot to turn around and come back and get us. A couple of weeks ago they missed like everybody on this side here and my neighbor and me," said George Andrews as he pointed to a row of homes on Thornwood Road.

Some families said they have started taking their recyclables to the landfill themselves

"We're trying to figure out why it is they don't show up and don't communicate. I asked if they could give us an automated call if they miss our pick up to tell us when they're going to come back because if it's five days from now we don't really want our neighborhood decorated with trash cans," said neighbor Janina Austin.

WFMY reached out to management at Republic Waste Services to get some answers. A media relations staff sent this statement:

"Thank you for reaching out to Republic Services. We strive to provide excellent service, and we appreciate you letting us know that you've had customer comments. We have not had widespread complaints about missed pickups in the area. We encourage any customer who has had a missed collection to notify us so that we can address it. "

However, after further prodding, the staff sent another response sating their records showed five complaints from that neighborhood.

Guilford County commissioners recently approved a household rate increase for Republic Waste Services from $16.50 to $21.50 per month.
