Neighborz App: It's Like Tinder For Food

A new app is looking to connect the community to food choices around them with a swipe right.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- The average American couple spends 132 hours a year deciding where to eat.

Don't you wish you could get that time back?

A new app called Neighborz is looking to cut down on that process one swipe at time while connecting you to good food in your area.

"Eating food is great. Let's mae the part before it great too," Carl Turner founder of Neighborz said.

Turner came to America from German with a dream in mind. He graduated from Wake Forest University in the spring of 2017 and started working on it.

His dream actualized in the form of an app that connects users to local foods. A quick way to describe the app is like Tinder for food.

"Our goal is that you not just have a printed menu, but actually have a visual experience because pictures say more than a thousand words," Turner said.

So here's how it works.

Everything you like goes to your wish list. Then to purchase things on your wish list add it to your bag or you can choose to see more items from the same restaurant.

Neighborz was released just two months ago and already has more than 1,000 users.

Colin Gibbons is the manager of Mooney's Mediterranean Cafe. He says the app is good for business.

"A lot of our dishes have names that sound unfamiliar or unappetizing to someone have never tried them. Instead of hearing a weird word they see a picture and say okay that's chicken okay that's a steak pita that looks delicious, " Gibbons explained.

Neighborz is currently available at 15 restaurants all within walking distance in Winston Salem.
Just look for the blue logo on the door.

The app is free, but only available on the app store now.

Turner says the goal is to build a bigger footprint in Winston-Salem, then expand to other cities in North Carolina like Greensboro and Charlotte.

He says delivery is in the works as well.
