Snow Removal Crews Transition To Secondary Streets

Today the focus is on secondary or neighborhood roads

GUILFORD COUNTY, NC:: Tommy McDevitt likes to think of himself as a popular person but lately he is not only wanted, he's in high demand.

It seems almost everyone wants him to stop by and visit their neighborhood, “People are grateful for me to come by,” said McDevitt.

A Transportation Supervisor with NCDOT, McDevitt has spent the last three days clearing snow covered roads in Guilford County, “A whole lot of work,” said McDevitt.

Today the focus is on secondary or neighborhood roads. Some areas hit with 14 inches of snow, “Our goal is to get every road in Guilford County cleared,” said McDevitt.

More than 100 plows and motor graders are out pushing the snow and ice off the roads. A lot of work when you consider Guilford County has more than 4,000 roads, “I’ve worked more than I’ve slept the past few days,” said McDevitt.

The long our worth it when neighbors come up to him and say thanks, many not able to leave their home until he came by, “We were not able to drive until today (after road plowed) had to walk,” said Louis Alberty.

The amount of snow and freezing rain has slowed the clearing process, but crews will remain out over the next day or two until the roads are clear.
