This Check List Can Keep You Safe On Your Next Road Trip

Use this quick checklist to make sure your car is ready for your next road trip.

Summer is just about here and you may be ready to hit the road. But is your car ready? Here are a few things you'll want to check before your next road trip.

Start with the only part of your car that's supposed to touch the road, your tires. We've previously shown you how to check the tread on those tires. But check the air pressure too. Don't know what the air pressure is supposed to be? You can actually check on the inside of your car door.

That sticker you may have seen in there actually has the recommended pressure on it.

Check your lights as well. Front, tail, hi-beams, all of them. Make sure you clean the lenses so the lights can shine as brightly as possible.

Check your fluids as well. You know your car needs oil. But check your coolant, brake, and windshield wipers before you hit the road. Check your transmission, if you can, as well.

Make sure your wipers are up to snuff too. Consumer Reports testing shows they last about 6 months. But if they're already a few months old, you may want to swap them out before that big trip.
