Triad Police Investigating String of Robberies Targeting CVS, Other Stores

The robberies began on April 20th when the robbers first hit the CVS on West Wendover Avenue in Greensboro, according to police. Since then the trio has hit 9 times at 7 locations between the cities of Greensboro and Winston-Salem.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police in Winston-Salem and Greensboro are investigating a string of armed robberies across the Triad which have targeted mostly CVS Pharmacies. Surveillance video exclusively obtained from Winston-Salem Police Department shows one of the robberies from May 17.

In the video, 3 masked men are seen entering the CVS on Hanes Mall Blvd. They are dressed in dark-colored hoodies and wearing gloves. They are also brandishing handguns and one is carrying a red bag. Moments after the men enter, one of them returns to the entrance to guard the door.

Police say the robberies began on April 20 when the robbers first hit the CVS on West Wendover Avenue in Greensboro. Since then the trio has hit 9 times at 7 locations between the cities of Greensboro and Winston-Salem. They hit various CVS stores 6 times and even returned to two stores for a second go around.

"From the description of the subjects the number of people involved, their clothing, mannerisms and that have linked them together as probable suspects of the same group," said Thomas Craven.

Craven is the coordinator of Crime Stoppers at the Winston-Salem Police Department. Police say most recently the suspects changed their mode of operation and hit a Walgreens on West Market Street, the Food Lion on Groometown Road and the Speedway Store on East Market Street. The men stole cash from each location except at the Walgreens where their effort was thwarted. Greensboro Police also sent in surveillance photos of some of the robberies in Greensboro.

While it is difficult to make out a description from the photos, Greensboro Police investigators believe the suspects got away in a light colored car. They also believe the robberies are linked.

Winston Salem Police released the video in hopes that it would lead to information to crack the case before the robbers use their weapon and hurt someone. Police are also looking for two other persons of interest.

"The night after the robbery 2 subjects came in and based on the conversation there the investigators believe these two people may have some information about the robberies, they are not listed as suspects but persons of interest," said Craven.

If you have any information you can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 336-727-2800 for Winston-Salem and 336-373-1000 for Greensboro and Guilford County. There is a reward for tips that lead to an arrest.
