GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for "My 2 Cents."
Tis the season for treating yourself. At least that's what I tell myself.
It's November, my birth month. So usually around this time, if I see something I like, I buy it.
It's a from Taheshah to Taheshah gift because I believing in celebrating myself more than just one day and it makes me feel good.
But when you combine my purchases from this month so far and over the last few months, I think I'm heading down this slippery self-care slope.
On the surface, self-care is great. One mental health expert describes it as any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health
But there has to be balance. I believe the trick is making sure self-care is really caring for yourself, rather than just an excuse to do whatever you want.
So don't be like me and buy four sweaters when really one will do.
But do take time to inventory the things you are doing for yourself in the name of self-care.
I would also say two things. One, make sure the ends justify the means. Don't do something that will hurt you down the line.
And two, do something that works for you! For example: if you do something you hate because a lot of other people do it for self-care it's not helping you at all.
Form your own opinion, that's just my two cents.
