WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest senior defensive end Duke Ejiofor has been named as one of 18 semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award given annually to the nation’s most outstanding defensive player.

Maxwell Football Club President Mark Dianno made the announcement on Monday.

The list of candidates includes a total of 18 players including four from the ACC. Joining Ejiofor from the ACC are DT Dexter Lawrence of Clemson, LB Joe Giles-Harris of Duke, S Derwin James of Florida State and DE Bradley Chubb of NC State.

Ejifor ranks second in the ACC with 6.5 sacks in 2017 and is second in the league with 14 tackles for loss. Nationally, he is fifth in the nation in tackles for loss and 16th in sacks.

Ejifor has helped the Demon Deacon defense rank first in the nation in tackles for loss with 9.3 per game. Ejiofor has 34 total tackles this season as well as a team-high five quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles.

Three finalists for the 23rd annual Bednarik Award will be announced on Nov. 20.
