ROCKY MOUNT, NC --Hurricane Florence is forcing a change to Winston-Salem State University's football schedule.
The Rams' upcoming game against Elizabeth City State has been canceled due to the threat of weather, according to ECSU officials. The schools were scheduled to play in the 21st Down East Football Viking Classic on Saturday in Rocky Mount.
“Our priority is focusing our attention on the safety and welfare of the student-athletes, support groups and those that worked hard to bring forth this terrific event," said ECSU athletics director George L. Bright. "We look forward to returning The Down East Viking Football Classic to Rocky Mount in 2019."
Monday, officials said the game "may" be rescheduled at a later date in Elizabeth City.
Tickets purchased for Saturday's game can be returned for refunds.
