Town of Madison Bicentennial Celebration

Madison, North Carolina turns 200 in 2018 and the Merchant's Guild is going all out for the big celebration.

MADISON, N.C. -- A Triad town is celebrating its bicentennial year. Madison, North Carolina turns 200 in 2018 and the Merchant's Guild is going all out for the occasion.

Mavis Dillon and Kathy Miller are planning the year-long party. Dillon says if you have never visited the town of Madison, you're missing out.

"Madison is only 20 miles north of Greensboro," said Dillon. "We have a lot of neat little shops that are popping up and restaurants and little taverns and fitness centers. It's a little one stop shop for everything and its really growing."

Miller, owns Madison Dry Goods. She says the town's rich history stems from being located on the Dan River.

"It was based on shipping on the Dan River, tobacco was a big part of it and of course the mills," said Miller. "We were one of the first tobacco plug warehouses in North Carolina. It's a great place with a lot of good architecture."

This Saturday, April 28, 2018, the town's Music Fest will fill the streets of downtown. The all day festival features food trucks, a beer garden, unique items from more than 60 vendors and live music from seven local artists, including Eric And The Chill Tones.

The event begins at 10 a.m. downtown. You can read more about Music Fest and the year's other events by clicking here.
