DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A driver was killed following a head-on crash with a North Carolina Department of Transportation dump truck Wednesday morning in Davidson County, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Officials said the driver crossed the center lane of NC 109 north of Jesse Green Road when they collided with the truck driver. Troopers said the driver died on the scene. The driver of the dump truck went to Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center with minor injuries and is expected to recover.

Charges aren't expected to be filed, according to Highway Patrol officials.

Both the car and the dump truck overturned as a result of the crash. Troopers responded to the area around 8 a.m.

The road had been blocked off for several hours and remained closed as of noon. They don't know when it will be able to reopen. NCDOT set up a detour for drivers to avoid the area.
