WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Editor's note: the above video is from a separate story dealing with road conditions in North Carolina.

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on US 421 in Winston-Salem, according to police.

Investigators say Daniel Culp was riding a bike on US 421 south when for some reason he veered off the road, hit the concrete median and flew in the northbound lanes.

At that time, police say another driver heading north on US 421 hit Culp.

First responders took Culp to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The crash happened around 6 p.m. Saturday and US 421 was closed in both directions for several hours between Cloverdale Avenue and Peters Creek Parkway while the Traffic Enforcement Unit began its investigation.

All lanes have since reopened.

This is the 18th traffic-related fatality in Winston-Salem this year, compared to 11 during this same time in 2020.

Police have not announced any charges connected to the crash at this time.
