U.S. 29 renovation coming in June, expect construction until 2024

The construction will shift the entirety of the Reedy Fork Pkwy interchange south, realigning it with Summit Ave.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A new roadway project on the U.S. 29 interchange in Guilford County will soon begin at Reedy Fork Pkwy. The construction will shift the entirety of the interchange south, realigning Reedy Fork Pkwy with Summit Ave.

Work on the roadway is slated to begin as early as June 2. Construction is projected to be completed by May 2024, officials announced Friday.

"Drivers should expect various lane closures in this area as work progresses over the next few years to demolish and rebuild the interchange," North Carolina Department of Transportation officials said.

The current bridge over the highway was built in 1961 and needs replacing, the NCDOT.

The NCDOT said the new traffic pattern will be a 'diverging diamond.' This interchange reduces traffic backups and significantly reduces crashes, according to the NCDOT.

Build NC Bonds is paying more than $46 million to help fund the project.
