Florence Winds Topple Tree onto Car in Forsyth County

A tree fell on top of a car traveling on Highway 421 in Forsyth County, injuring two.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Two women were taken to the hospital after strong winds from Florence toppled a tree onto their car on Southbound Highway 421 on Friday.

The two-car accident happened just before Knollwood Street around 6 p.m.

Winston-Salem Fire tweeted a photo of the car the women were inside when a fallen tree smashed through the top of the car, shattering the front windshield.

Battalion Chief Aaron Noah says the women were transported to Baptist Hospital. He says one of them has minor injuries, the other has serious injuries.

Firefighters are contributing the cause of the accident to the strong winds and soggy grounds.

Firefighters have cleared the debris from the highway, and all lanes have reopened.
