Wednesday, the district announced this year's class of seniors earned a record $159.7 million in scholarship money for college.

The district hosted a news conference Wednesday with district officials, and five of GCS' outstanding seniors, to make the announcement.

Shawn Newton, a senior who graduated from the Middle College at GTCC with 31 college credits, will attend North Carolina Central; Caroline Farrell, a senior at Northern Guilford, will attend UNC-Chapel Hill; Chyna Hines, a senior at Grimsley High School, will go to North Carolina Central; James McNeill, a member of the Andrews High School aviation program, will attend North Carolina A&T; and Madison Eller, an International Baccalaureate student at Page High School, will attend Princeton University in the fall.

Each of the students talked to WFMY News 2 Wednesday and offered advice to rising seniors. You can hear from each of them in the video above.

Students also spent the day rehearsing for graduation in the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center. Graduation ceremonies for most Guilford County Schools will begin Friday.
