Homes Flooded After Alamance County Hit Hard By Storms

Emergency crews are evacuating areas along Elon Crossing and Manning Avenue in Elon.

ELON, N.C. (WFMY) – Emergency workers in Elon used a small raft to help people impacted by flash flooding at a mobile home community.

That’s after torrential downpours hit the area Friday afternoon and evening resulting in flooding along the area of Elon Crossing and Manning Avenue at Brookside Mobile Home Community.

Several residents WFMY spoke to said the power also cut out around 3 p.m. because of the flooding. Duke Energy notified them, and the power was restored around 7 p.m. Friday.

Laura McKinley, a resident at the mobile home community said the flooding was really bad at one point. "This was all flooded, cars were everywhere the fire marshal was out here," McKinley said. "The woods was flooded and all that street and up behind me was flooded."

Elon University campus received about five inches of rain. The main part of campus lost power due to a major rainstorm.

However, it has restored power to the man parts of campus. However, power will remain off for the night at Colonnades residential neighborhood, Koury Business Center, Clohan Dining Hall, Loy Center and Global Neighborhood. Elon has relocated students and staff impacted by the outages.

Firefighters spent the night cleaning their department after it flooded due to heavy rains. The flooding impacted the department located on Altamahaw Union Ridge Road in Alamance County.

The Haw River is flooding in Alamance. At 20 feet, that's usually enough to cause significant overflow. WFMY News 2 Meteorologist, Tim Buckley said it's expected to rise to 21 feet into early Saturday morning then start to recede.
