GREENSBORO, N.C. — The dry and sunny weather is coming to an end. After a nice weekend in the Triad, rain is set to make its return.

As high pressure moves further off the coast an area of low pressure is tracking up from Florida into eastern North Carolina bringing extra clouds into the area and scattered showers to the area overnight and through Monday.

An approaching cold front overnight Monday and into Tuesday will be the big rain maker.

Rain will pick up late Monday night and be much more steady through Tuesday. Showers could linger into Wednesday morning before we clear out Wednesday afternoon. Behind the cold front we're in for a big cool down with highs in the mid 40s Wednesday and struggling to make it out of the 30s on Thursday.

As far as rain totals go, around one inch in most of the Triad is pretty likely.

For the month of December, we've received .87" of rain so far, expecting to add close to an inch to that total by the time we make it to Wednesday.

Normally, we receive close to three inches of rain in December and we're on track to be pretty close to that, if not a little more at this time.
