Weather Blog | 3,000 power outages near Lake Townsend; 400 in Greensboro's Fisher Park neighborhood

Heavy rain and strong winds have moved out of our area, and fortunately, we didn't see anything too serious.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A storm system moving across all of the Southeast is expected to leave the Piedmont Triad area around 6 a.m. 

Some areas across the Piedmont experienced high winds and heavy rain during the early hours of the morning, but fortunately, we didn't have to deal with anything too severe. 

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29, 2020

4:30 a.m. - There are a couple hundred power outages in the Burlington area this morning. Duke Energy expects the outages to be fixed between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. 

4:19 a.m. - Due to flooding, US 29N is closed at Gorrell Street, Greensboro Police Watch Operations said in an emailed statement. Drivers should use alternate routes. 

4:00 a.m. - The Duke Energy outage map is showing about 400 customers in the Fisher Park neighborhood of Greensboro without power. It's also showing roughly 3,000 customers near Lake Townsend - most of those outages appear to be near N. Church Street at Spencer-Dixon Road, west of Highway 29. Both areas are expected to have power again by 9 a.m., according to the Duke outage map. 

3:33 a.m. - There are flood watches for Surry and Wilkes Counties. Those flood watches will end at 10 a.m. 

3:03 a.m. - A heavy patch of rain passed over Greensboro. 

1:37 a.m. - Flood advisory warning issued for Wilkes and Surry counties.

12:05 a.m - Wind gusts at cloud level reach 60 mph, no news of thunderstorms in Triad area.

10:41 p.m. - Rain starts to touch down in Winston-Salem.
