CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Black Ice Overnight:

Patchy black ice is possible overnight into Sunday morning. The mountains areas mostly prone to patchy black ice. The risk is much lower in Charlotte and surrounding areas thanks to sunny skies, above freezing temperatures and gusty winds on Saturday afternoon.

Tonight:

Mostly clear and very cold overnight with lows in the upper teens and 20s. Use caution during the morning hours and monitor the roads closely for slick spots. Check this out, look forward to warmer temperatures on Sunday afternoon.

Tomorrow:

Get ready for highs in the upper 40s to around 50 for Sunday. In addition, expect partly cloudy sky conditions and breezy at times with gusts near 20 mph.  A weak system is on track to clip the region Sunday into Monday, but no rain or snow likely with the exception of light precipitation in the mountains.

Warming trend:

Relief from some of the cold weather is just around the corner. Still, prepare to bundle up during the morning hours, but the afternoons will be a treat after dealing with three consecutive winter storms.

Temperatures outlook: 50s to kick off the work week, then 60s by midweek. The trade off for warmer weather, means increasing rain chances for later in the week.

Precipitation Chances

A warmer and wetter pattern will take shape by midweek ahead of a cold front. The timing of the front is lining up for Thursday into Friday with showers out of ahead of it as early as Wednesday night. This is likely to be a rain event with snow chances limited to the mountains should the moisture linger once temperatures drop below freezing early Saturday.
