With Busy Travel Weekend Ahead, NCDOT Urging Folks To Buckle UP

The NCDOT says deaths among people not wearing seat belts have slightly decreased 4.5 percent from this time last year. However, unrestrained serious injuries increased by 32 percent in North Carolina from 2016 to 2017.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Memorial Day Weekend.

A time for barbecues, the first trip to the beach, and Click It Or Ticket.

Many people will be driving this weekend so, the North Carolina Department Of Transportation is reminding folks to buckle up.

SInce this is the 25th anniversary of the law so we wanted to see just how many folks buckle up on a normal day.

We grabbed our counter, set up on Wendover and got to clicking.

We counted 100 cars we could clearly see, and of those 100 -- 88 were wearing seatbelts.

The NCDOT says nearly 92 percent buckle up, so Greensboro you're right up to snuff.

When the law launched back in 1993, only 64 percent of North Carolinians used their seat belt. Today nearly 92 percent buckle up says the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
