How Bluetooth Technology is Helping Battle High Blood Pressure

The technology could help doctors in the battle against heart disease.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — High blood pressure affects almost half of all Americans, but new research could help make curing the condition easier.

The program comes from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Researchers had patients wear a cuff with Bluetooth capability to measure their blood pressure twice a day.

The information was sent directly to their medical records and a medical professional was able to adjust the patients' medication every two weeks, bringing their blood pressure under control.

Patient navigator Victoria Liquori says "We want to make sure we find the right regimen for them that is realistic."

The researchers found that the program helped about 80% of patients get their blood pressure in check in just seven weeks.

It's estimated that 100 million Americans have high blood pressure.
