90-Year-Old Couple Dead After Home Fire Along Highway 49 in Ramseur

A residential fire killed two people early Friday morning in Ramseur, fire crews said.

Two people are dead after a residential fire in Ramseur early Friday morning, according to Randolph County Emergency Services. The fire broke out at a home at King Road and Highway 49 North, said Fire Marshal Erik Beard.

A couple lost their lives in the fire - 92-year-old Mr. Walden and 90-year-old Mrs. Walden. They were reportedly in the home during the fire and identified a short time after.

Three different firehouses responded to the structure fire at 4:28 a.m.; Franklinville, Staley, and Eastside. EMS and patrol deputies also made their way out to the home.

After the flames were extinguished search crews quickly found two people in the home who were unresponsive, according to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. The Waldens were pronounced dead by EMS.

A cause and origin are still being investigated by the Randolph County Fire Marshal's Office. Foul play is not suspected but the investigation is ongoing.
