Register Your Child For Pre-K Before The Deadline

The deadline to register your child for Pre-K at Guilford County School sites is Friday, April 13, 2018.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- There's an important date parents need to keep on their radar. The deadline to register your child for Pre-K is just two weeks away on Friday, April 13, 2018.

Brenda Matthis with Partnership for Children Guilford County joined WFMY News 2's Tracey McCain on the Good Morning Show Wednesday to talk about the importance of Pre-K.

"Every classroom uses creative curriculum and provides the critical thinking skills that gets children ready for Kindergarten," said Matthis. And there's proof that it works.

"The state of NC now has what's called the Kindergarten entry assessment. So when you see children who went through NC Pre-K, there scores are higher when they enter Kind then children who didn't attend NC Pre-K."

Matthis says the Guilford County division of NC Pre-K currently serves over 2,000 children and next year the enrollment will include 95 additional children.

Applications are now being accepted for 2018-2019 serving children in Guilford County Schools, Guilford Child Development and also private childcare sites. Mathis says this is not a situation where children will get turned away.

"There are income eligibility requirements, but even if they're over income we still have other programs and funds that children can qualify for."

The deadline to choose a Guilford County School location is Friday, April 13, 2018. Families may still apply for Guilford Child Development and private childcare sites after that date through May. All applications must be submitted to Partnership for Children of Guilford County.

Families must provide proof of birth, address and income with a completed application. The application can be located at our website: www.guilfordchildren.org
