GREENSBORO, N.C. - The YWCA of Greensboro is partnering with the Greensboro Commission on the Status of Women to hold an information session about human trafficking.

It's all about learning how to spot, stop, and prevent human trafficking.

Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery.

Traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to control victims for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or labor services unwillingly.

According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, North Carolina is the top 10 states in the number of trafficking reports.

In the past 10 years, the NHTH has identified almost 2,700 victims of human trafficking in the state.

Last year, there were 221 human trafficking cases reported in North Carolina.

That includes 149 sex trafficking cases and 51 labor trafficking cases.

The first step in preventing human trafficking is raising awareness about the crime.

During the information session, participants will learn how to spot the indicators of human trafficking and report possible cases.

Rachel Parker, Anti-Human Trafficking Program Manager with World Relief Triad, will act as the guest speaker.

The information session will be held at the YWCA of Greensboro on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.
