GREENSBORO N.C.--- The National Weather Service sent a survey crew to the Triad Monday to determine the strength of the tornado that struck Greensboro Sunday.
The tornado developed shortly after 5pm Sunday afternoon, first touching down just north of I-40 near Willow Rd. It produced widespread damage, up to 1/4 mile wide, with peak winds of 135 mph as it tracked northward near the Highway 29 corridor.
The National Weather Service in Raleigh says the storm continued to barrel north-northeastward through the city and into Northeast Guilford County, impacting the Hicone Rd area, north toward the Rockingham County line where it continued. It was on the ground for 16 miles in Guilford County, and spent another 17 miles in Rockingham County.
