KING, N.C. — The City of King will soon officially have a new police chief.

Jordan Boyette, a fifteen-year veteran of the King police department, served as Interim Chief ever since former Chief Paula May retired on January 1.

Boyette will officially be sworn in as Chief of Police on March 4 at the King City Council meeting by Mayor Jack Warren.

“Jordan has handled the responsibilities of Captain and Interim Chief extremely well, and with great poise and leadership, ” said King City Manager Homer Dearmin.

“He has the respect of our officers and the endorsement of his peers in law enforcement, and I am fully confident that our citizens and community members will value his service as our Chief of Police as they interact with him personally and build positive relationships with the officers and staff under his command."

Boyette received numerous promotions since beginning employment as a Detective in the King Police Department in January 2004.

In 2005 he was promoted to Sergeant over the Department’s Criminal Investigations, followed by the rank of Lieutenant in 2007 and Captain in 2018.

Previously Boyette served as a Deputy Sheriff and Detective with the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office from 1991-2004.

He was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Sergeant from the United States Air Force, serving in both Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

“I am excited to lead this department, and to build upon the work of those who have served before me, said Boyette.

I love this community, and I am committed to being available, responsive, open, and transparent as we carry out our mission. I look forward to working with our Mayor, City Council, and Administration to ensure safety and security, and will promote integrity, dedication, and professionalism in every aspect of the King Police Department”.
