Power Outages Likely with High Winds Friday

Very high, damaging winds are likely in the Triad throughout the day Friday. Trees could fall, and scattered power outages are likely.

GREENSBORO, NC -- High winds have arrived in the Triad. Friday will be a very windy day, with gusts of 40-50 mph at times. Bring inside any patio furniture or objects that could blow away. We'll be sunny for the weekend, with no rain until Tuesday.

A high wind event is setting up due to strong low pressure in New England and strong high pressure in the Midwest. We'll be caught in the middle, with steady winds of 20-30 mph, with frequent gusts of 40-50 mph. These are high enough winds to down trees and power lines.

Power outages are likely, scattered across the Piedmont. Travel will be difficult for high profile vehicles. Please be safe.

A high wind warning is in effect for the Foothills, and a wind advisory for the Triad. Skies will be sunny and temperatures will peak in the mid 50s.

It will still be a bit breezy on Saturday, and we'll remain sunny and cool. Morning lows will be right around freezing, with afternoon highs in the mid 50s. Gusts will be between 20 and 30 mph on Saturday. Sunday and Monday will be sunny and less windy with highs again in the mid 50s.
