Red Cross Disaster Relief Shelter To Close, Two Resource Centers Remain Open

Since the EF-2 tornado hit, the Red Cross has provided more than 200 overnight shelter stays as well as meals, snacks, and health services.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The American Red Cross plans to close its tornado disaster relief shelter at the Windsor Recreation Center. However, it will keep two Disaster Resource Centers open.

The shelter in Greensboro will close by noon on Thursday, April 26.

The Red Cross said most families have already left the shelter but they will help transition those who remain.

Since the EF-2 tornado hit, the Red Cross has provided more than 200 overnight shelter stays as well as meals, snacks, and health services.

The Red Cross and other partners will remain available at two Disaster Resource Centers in Greensboro including Willow Oaks Community Center and Peeler Recreation Center open daily from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Willow Oaks Community Center is located at 1815 Everitt Street and Peeler Recreation Center at 1300 Sykes Avenue in Greensboro.

The following organizations are at the resource centers including Guilford County Department of Social Services, Legal Aid, Greensboro Housing Authority, Greensboro Housing Coalition, Greensboro Neighborhood Development and Turning Point 180 are available to assist with a variety of needs. Red Cross caseworkers will connect one-on-one with people at these centers to create recovery plans, complete paperwork and find help from other agencies.
