FAQs After Snowstorm Slams Triad: Students, Make Up Days, Exams and Winter Break

There are a lot of snow questions when it comes to school. We did our best to answer some of them.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- — We have questions, and you have questions when it comes to all this snow, and what it means for your students.

HOW ARE STUDENTS GOING TO MAKE UP THESE DAYS?

Well, each district is different. Alamance-Burlington School Systems already announced what days will be used to make up their missed days. You can find that schedule here. However, Guilford County Schools hasn't announced a plan for their missed days yet.

WILL STUDENTS GO BACK TO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY?

For many in our area, it has now been announced they will not go back on Friday.

DOESN'T THE STATE OF EMERGECNY FORGIVE MISSED SCHOOL DAY?

Leaders with Guilford County Schools say it doesn't really have anything to do with schools.

"While it's significant in terms of City and County government, it really has no impact on schools, and districts and the decisions we make and what we do, and it has no impact on the state calendar law," said Nora Carr, Guilford County Schools Chief Of Staff.

HAVE WE EVER SEEN THIS AMOUNT OF MISSED DAYS?

Before the winter break, Guilford County has never seen this amount of missed days. In fact, the most that GCS ever missed before the winter breaks was three days, and now they have missed nine.

The overall record for Guilford County Schools throughout the entire year is 12 missed days.

WHAT ABOUT THOSE WAIVED DAYS FROM THE HURRICANES?

Those waived days actually don't alter the 1,025 required hours students must go to school throughout they year. It actually has more to do with teachers, and staff. Many are paid by the state on a per-day basis. This allows them to still get paid without taking a vacation day, or a non-paid day.
