Ways to stay safe at this year's Lexington Barbecue Festival

Police share safety tips ahead of this year's Lexington Barbecue Festival including what you can or cannot bring and how to not get lost in the crowd.

LEXINGTON, N.C. — We're four days away from the 39th annual Lexington Barbecue Festival. The Festival is set to kick off this Saturday, Oct. 28.

Last year, the Barbecue Festival had an estimated 200,000 people attend and they're expecting even more this year.

The festival will take place in Uptown Lexington. A nine-block stretch of Main Street will be closed to traffic.

The Lexington Police Department is prepping in terms of safety and security.

Police Chief, Robbie Rummage, recommends attendees remember where they parked by taking a photo of their car. Rummage also encourages if you plan to attend in a group you wear the same color or something similar -- that way, no one gets lost in the crowd.

The festival was successfully held after enduring two consecutive years of cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Incredible weather and pent-up demand resulted in record-breaking crowds attending the 2022 festival. Attendees were delighted at the opportunity to celebrate again in Lexington, NC. The City of Lexington and festival planners are prepping for the 2023 festival!
