Trashy or classy? Fashion blogger makes prom dress out of trash bags

'When someone calls you trashy, make a dress out of trash bags and prove them fabulously correct.'

This fashion blogger is bringing “do-it-yourself” to a whole new level.

Amber Scholl is a YouTube influencer known for her creative twists on classic looks and her most recent craft is turning trash into threads. Inspired by a fan’s compliment, Scholl decided to apply her skills to prom season.

Scholl tweeted out an image of her high-end outfit crafted entirely from plastic trash bags and the internet went crazy for the look. She captioned the tweet, “When someone calls you trashy, make a dress out of trash bags and prove them fabulously correct.”

Detailing every step of the process in her recent YouTube video, Scholl shows her buying the trash bags at Target and curling pieces of the plastic into intricate, knotted roses. The final look is a trash-bag corset top with a sheer skirt and roses meticulously placed around the gown.

In total, the blogger used duct tape, trash bags, super glue, and a body suit – but the entire result looks like it came straight off the runway. Proving that inexpensive items can produce high-end fashion is a hobby for Scholl, but now she’s proving a lot more.

“I really think it’s about rocking whatever stage of life that you’re in.” says Scholl.

Her message of empowering yourself no matter the limitations is inspiring her fans to embrace their beauty and build self-love.
