April 13, 1992, was a day for The King!
Officials dedicated a portion of Highway 220 to racing legend Richard Petty.
Petty is a stock car racing legend with more than 200 NASCAR victories and multiple Winston Cup championships.
Check out Governor Jim Martin and other dignitaries wearing Petty-style hats for the event!
"To have all these dignitaries to stop working and doing the things they're supposed to be doing and come out and honor them in a way like this makes you think the struggling you've done all these years is really worthwhile," said Petty.
The 8-mile stretch of US 220 in Randolph County stretches from his hometown of Level Cross to the US 311 exit.
