Vault Visit | Wake Forest University football tower implosion

January 14, 2007, was a big day in Wake Forest football history.

WAKE FOREST, N.C. — This year, WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

With daily vault visits that look at important stories from our past.

January 14, 2007, was a big day in Wake Forest football history.

Not in terms of plays or players but in terms of the facilities.

It's the day Wake Forest imploded its press box!

Many people got up early to watch the demolition.

"It's symbolic of where Wake Forest football program is going and signals the starting of deacon tower and I didn't want to miss it," said one attendee.

The original press box was built in 1968.

It gave way to what is now known as McCreary Tower.

It's seven stories and 122,000 square feet and opened in August 2008.
