GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A medical professional, community leader, and civil rights activist was memorialized in Greensboro.
A statue of Dr. George Simkins, Jr. was unveiled in Greensboro on Tuesday.

Dr. Simkins was a dentist from Greensboro who fought for desegregation in local health facilities, parks, and transportation. He died in 2001.
Dr. Simkins' son George spoke about his father's contributions to the civil rights movement during the unveiling ceremony.
