A missing dog from Miami showed up as a stray in Tampa.

TAMPA, Fla. — A dog that escaped from a yard in Miami turned up at a Tampa shelter months later.

Owners of the dog, named Ace, have been looking for him ever since he escaped in December. Ace showed up at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay a week ago as a stray and had a microchip, according to a Facebook post by the nonprofit.

The team at the organization reached out to the owners and were "so overjoyed and hopped in their car," the post read.

The Humane Society called Ace a "very polite boy" who was excited to see his family again.

The organization has saved 11,122 animals and have a 91% save rate, according to their website. They have a page for stray pets where viewers can search by species, sex, attributes, age, breed or name if they lost their furry friend.

A similar situation occurred last month when a San Diego dog named Mishka ended up more than 2,000 miles away in Michigan.

Just like Ace, it's a mystery how she ended up so far from home, but her family never gave up hope and was reunited with her months after she first went missing.
