His kids were tired of waiting for snow, so this Greensboro dad turned his backyard into a winter wonderland

Matt Lopina wasn't sure if his daughters would get a good snowfall this season, so he took matters into his own hands last weekend. He built a snow machine!

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A winter without snow wasn't going to cut it for Matt Lopina.

"It was kind of a grim outlook because we hadn't seen any snow all winter."

He longed for a change, but months ticked by...and nothing.

So, he took matters into his own hands.

"I went online, found some plans, and made this little device here that made it happen for us," said Lopina.

Last weekend, his snowmachine created a winter wonderland in his backyard for his daughters, Noelle and Lucy.

"I was very happy to know that he was making snow," said Noelle.

A downhill slope made for a few great runs on the sled!

Using a pressure washer, air compressor, and some everyday parts from the hardware store, Matt made it happen in a matter of hours.

"It's this little bar and there are three nozzles that shoot water out," Matt explained. "You've got your pressure washer hooked in here. Down here is the air compressor and a little bit of water drips in here and it comes out like a fine mist, but when it's 27-degrees, that mist freezes instantly and all the water from here falls through and that's what turns into snow."

The Lopinas are looking forward to (Mother Nature's) snow in the forecast.

"Maybe get a little bit more coverage so we can sled even further," said Matt.

But, should Mother Nature disappoint - you can be sure, you'll find snow at the Lopina house.

Matt followed these instructions to make the machine.
