GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Operation Christmas Child wants to spread Christmas cheer to more than 10 million children around the world, and you can help.

The organization kicks of National Shoebox Collection Week Monday and will collect gifts for children ages 14 and younger through Nov. 24.

Gift donations, including toys, school supplies and hygiene products, will be placed into empty shoeboxes, along with handwritten notes, and shipped to children around the world.

Here in the Triad, you can drop off your shoebox gifts at 17 locations in Greensboro, High Point and Rockingham County. Click here to find a drop-off location near you.

The Greensboro chapter of Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect 30,000 shoebox gifts this year. This week, local groups will host "packing parties" to pack shoeboxes to help in the global effort to make Christmas special for millions of children.

The community is invited to a packing party Sunday afternoon at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church. It's located at 2600 Pisgah Church Rd. in Greensboro. The event is from 3 to 5 p.m.

Operation Christmas Child, a Samaritan's Purse project, has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to more than 113 million children in more than 100 countries.
