Relative of the late 'Mama Dip' opens restaurant in Raleigh museum

The new restaurant comes more than a year after Mildred Council died

RALEIGH, N.C. — A family tradition is ready to be served at the N.C. Museum of History.

The museum is welcoming the opening of its restaurant, Sweet Tea & Cornbread Grill and Eatery. The restaurant, open on the R Level of the museum, will serve up Southern staples as well as daily specials.

Behind the helm of the restaurant is Tonya Council, a granddaughter of the late culinary icon Mildred Council – Mama Dip. Council plans on staying true to many of her grandmother’s style of cuisine such as barbecue, chicken salad, fried green tomatoes and, of course, cornbread and sweet tea
