A long-time military family has uncorked its long-term viticulture ambition to start the 17th winery on the Surry County Wine Trail.

Haze Gray Vineyards, with its name draw from the color of U.S. Navy ships, has opened its winery and tasting room on a former 85-acre corn and tobacco farm near Dobson.

Owners Deane and Becky Muhlenberg have long-standing military ties, including Deane’s three-decade career as a Navy flight officer.
