WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The state of Minnesota won a ruling earlier this week against Winston-Salem-based R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., which could mean millions of additional dollars will flow to state coffers.

The state brought the case to court in March 2018, saying that after R.J. Reynolds merged with another tobacco company it stopped including settlement payments on various products. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. is a subsidiary of Reynolds American Inc., which is owned by UK-based British American Tobacco.

The original settlement dates back to 1998. It's unclear exactly how much Minnesota stands to gain.
